Information on how we will inform you of school closure

Dear Parents and Carers,

With the possibility of snow later this week, I would like to take this opportunity to remind our school community how we will inform you if the decision is made to close the school.

We will seek advice before making any decision to close all or part of the school, and if it is felt that closure is the appropriate course of action we will keep you informed of progress via the following channels:

  • School website:
  • OpenCheck:
  • You will need to select ‘Sutton’ from the Local Authority drop down menu and ‘Brookfield Primary Academy’ for the school
  • Parentmail:                              we will endeavour to send a text message and email to those
  • parents who are registered, but please be aware that this service is web-based and delays are possible during periods of heavy traffic

Please check the website in the first instance as this will be updated before OpenCheck.

OpenCheck for Parents: OpenCheck allows you to check the status of your children's school on any given day. This easy-to-use service presents information regarding school closures in case of emergency, severe weather or any news which may affect children's ability to attend or access the school. It also allows you to check scheduled school closures and term dates.

The service is free to use for parents, and can be accessed via the web or by telephone. OpenCheck is also available via ParentComms:Mobile as an app available for all popular smart phones, ensuring that Parents and Guardians have a choice of options on how to be kept up to date.

There is a mobile app available to download called ‘Parent Link’, which allows you to see the open status of the school and receive notifications each time we change the status.

You can download the iPhone app from here

And the Android app from here

You can either log in using your e-admissions details if you have them, or subscribe to our school. Either way, you will receive an automatic notification if we change the open status of the school. Please ensure you click yes to ‘enable push notifications’ when promoted to receive this.

Of course, you can call the school if during school office opening hours (between 8am and 4pm) to speak to us but the phone lines will be very busy so please try to avoid this if at all possible.

We do not anticipate at this point that the school will be closed but will of course keep you informed as detailed above if this changes.

Yours sincerely

Miss J Morley
